Jeanine Baskin doesn’t have an average family. In fact, her two daughters were adopted from China. Amelia, her youngest daughter is seven years old, but she is very unique compared to children of her age. She was born with only one fully developed arm. Despite that, this hasn’t stop the seven year old from living the active life that she wants. “What we often say about Amelia is how do you catch a cloud and pin it down? Thats just her personality,” said her mother Jeanine.

Amelia is involved in various sports such as soccer, swimming, skidding and she even has a blue belt in Tae Kwon Do. “What I tell her is there’s nothing that you cant do. You just might have to do it differently,” explained Jeanine. As of now, Amelia is learning to play the piano. This is truly remarkable as not everyone would have the same positive mindset that she carries.

Perhaps the secret to it all is motivation. If one is able to stay positive and motivated, he/she will be able to complete whatever they may set out to do. Sure, encouragement along the way plays a huge part to it as well. This can be seen from how Amelia’s parents encourage their daughter to handle things in a different way. Everyone has different learning abilities and capabilities. Sometimes, we may compare ourselves to others and wonder why we aren’t as fast and/or efficient to them. We shouldn’t be too concern about how others perform as everyone is unique in their own way. Ultimately, if we put in the effort required, we’ll definitely be able to reap the rewards from it.

The same goes for learning to play the piano. The most common question that people will ask is, “how long will it take before I can play the piano without assistance from the teacher?” There is really no definite answer for this. It depends on every individual’s learning ability and pace. Needless to say, it will also depend on how much effort they put in and the hours they put into practicing.

At Awesome Piano, we are aware of this and we want to provide you with the best possible lessons. Our ultimate aim is to gear you up so that you will be able to play a piano piece on your own. We cater to different individuals ranging from kids to adults to those who prefer intensive lessons. If someone with only one hand is capable of learning to play the piano, we’re pretty sure just about anybody can! For more information, check out our website.
