There are many people out there who always associate the piano to be more of a traditional and classical instrument. They tend to have this perception that it is more suitable for the older generation and that it isn’t as trendy or cool as the guitar. Well, Tom Odell is one person is determined to prove these individuals wrong as he strongly believes that the piano can also rock it out.

The BRIT Award-winning singer feels that currently his preferred instrument doesn’t have a “cool” label on it as compared to the guitar. However, he intends to change the way others look at it. ”I think the piano is just as rock ‘n’ roll. You look back to Jerry Lee LewisRay Charles, [Sir] Elton [John] in his early days, Billy Joel, those guys were f***ing cool – the way they played the piano and the amount you can do with the piano. I stand up now and give it hell,” he informed the Daily Star newspaper.

The 22-year-old used to be anxious during gigs when he had to play on a cheap piano. However, he is now ready to prove that his critics were wrong about him. During most of his live shows, he would display some of his colourful piano skills. ”People relate to the guitar easier than the piano so I had to learn to deal with the stigma. A lot of venues don’t have pianos so you end up playing some rubbish little keyboard that sounds like one. People tell me it’s uncool but I want them to come to a live show and I’ll show them,” he stated.

This coming Saturday on the 13th of July, Tom will be supporting The Rolling Stones at their final British Summer Time Hyde Park gig in London. Knowing that there will be a lot of people in attendance, he admitted that the thought of stepping onto the stage in front of such a crowd can be rather ”terrifying”. ”It is completely terrifying because it’s 65,000 people, but I’m looking forward to it. In my wildest dreams I wouldn’t have believed I could support them,” he said. For the full story, you can check it out from here.
