Just last year when Curtis Elton passed his Grade 8 music examinations, both his parents as well as his teachers were in disbelief. This year, the 9-year-old took things to a whole new level when he became the youngest person in the world to ever receive a degree-equivalent diploma. Based on his music skills, the young prodigy managed to attain an ATCL diploma, which is equivalent to that of a first-year degree.

Hayley Elton, his concert-pianist mum, would have to claim most of the credit for assisting him in developing his talents. In fact, she also had her own record when she was much younger. When she was just eight years of age, she became the youngest person to ever gain admission into the Guildhall School Of Music. As for Curtis, Hayley discovered his talent while he was still a toddler. She first noticed that her son enjoyed listening to her play as well as had unusually high levels of concentration and focus. Since the time when she first discovered his gift, Curtis has evolved and his piano-playing skills have only continued to develop further. As of now, he is considered to be one of the best young pianists in the country.

In fact, just this year alone, he has already received and participated in a number of prestigious events. Firstly, he has been nominated for a Nickelodeon Fruit Shoot skills award for the best rising star. The results are still not out yet, but just being nominated for such an award is already an accomplishment on its own. Secondly, he was invited to a Yamaha event to promote both a Disney film as well as clothing for GAP. Lastly, he was invited to participate in the London Master classes at the Royal College of Music with the world renowned conductor, Benjamin Zander.

In November this year, Curtis has also plans to release a CD that he has work with together with his mother. The CD will consists of much-loved classical pieces that are freshly interpreted by the duo. If you would like to read the full story on Curtis, you can do so from here.

Having a talent can help one in picking up new skills at a much faster pace. However, Awesome Piano always believe that talent alone can only get one so far. It is one’s own hard work that ultimately determines how far he/she can take his/her piano skills to. If you are keen in piano lessons in Singapore, do refer to us.
